Trans- is a zine by Eduardo Vélez Aráuz published by independent publisher Terminal in 2018. Trans- is a collection of photographs taken on Vélez Aráuz’s smartphone of what he observed while crossing a bridge. He collected an archive of almost 200 photographs from 2016 to 2018 as well as sound recordings made while walking along the bridge of the National Unit, an important road link in Ecuador. This project was made after Vélez Aráuz went through a divorce, moved out of the city, and changed his routine. Trans- begins with the biographical as a transitory subject in order to examine how we inhabit the world. Eduardo Vélez Aráuz is an artist from Guayaquil, Ecuador.
Terminal is a publishing project based in Ecuador for Ecuadorian and Latin American visual artists. By publishing fanzines, books, and editions, Terminal hopes to stimulate dialogue and nurture community. With an interest in diasporic art practices, alternate visions of contemporary culture, politics and resistance discourses, they work with underrepresented artists to circulate their work in galleries, shops and art book fairs worldwide. Terminal is founded and edited by Jaime Nuñez del Arco, in collaboration with graphic designer Gabriela Valarezo.
