Produced as a Fundraising Edition, Alex Da Corte’s Farewell is comprised of two offset-printed boxes. This stacked sculptural piece includes an overpainted cereal box placed on top of product packaging for a flammen lampe (flame lamp). The work continues Da Corte’s exploration into the varied lives of objects, their inherent vernaculars, and the resultant new meaning derived through contextual adjustment.
Alex Da Corte (b. 1980 in Camden, New Jersey) is a conceptual video and installation artist known for his eccentric sculptures and installation work which set the stage for his video pieces. Da Corte’s sartorial approach to video work takes campy Americana characters and queer iconography from pop culture and television and exerts pressure on them as conceptual actors with the capacity to convey compassion. Alex Da Corte has had solo exhibitions at Kölnischer Kunstverein in Köln, Germany, Karma in New York City, Secession in Vienna, Austria, the Hammer Museum in Los Angeles and MASS MoCA. Da Corte was included in the 2019 Venice Biennale.
