American Hardcore 1978-1990 brings together fifty American hardcore records representing the apex of the genre. This publication accompanied an exhibition of the same name, held at The Vinyl Factory, Chelsea in 2013.
The collection showcased exemplifies the evolution of Hardcore from a disparate musical style to a unified set of sounds, fixed codes and political beliefs. From the raw, stripped-down sounds of Black Flag to the spasmodic reggae influenced Bad Brains, hardcore emerged as a puritanical, suburban backlash against the decadence of big city punk rock outfits such as the Ramones and the New York Dolls. The publication comes with an oversized fold out print of the full collection of singles.
