Poster from the Truisms 1977-1979 series produced by Holzer, one of a large group sent by the artist to the Los Angeles Institute of Contemporary Art for its exhibition Secular Attitudes: Jenny Holzer, Fred Lonidier, The Sisters of Survival, Karen Atkinson, and Muntadas, February 15–March 23, 1985. The offset-printed posters were included in the exhibition and posted around LAICA and on nearby buildings as advertising for the show beforehand. This poster is one of the few copies remaining from the event.

Bob Smith, the founder of LAICA, wrote about these works as follows:

“The Holzer Truisms may be from the Hamburg edition, but she could have had more printed before the LAICA show. I think the reason there isn’t much information on the printing of her work is that she didn’t think that was important. She didn’t care in the Secular Attitudes show how the posters were used, how many we used or who would be in the show with her. She was very confident her work could stand on its own anywhere. Unusual and very impressive for an artist.”
