The Land—subtitled “An occasional magazine about land rights”—is written by and for people who believe that the roots of justice, freedom, social security and democracy lie not so much in access to money, or to the ballot box, as in access to land and its resources.
Published biannually, each issue of The Land takes a theme. Issue No. 16’s is Water. Taking subjects as diverse as the function of India’s stepwells, dew as a neglected resource, and the history of public wash-houses in England and France, this issue of The Land seeks to shift the conversation of water toward topics that have historically received less attention in news and publication cycles.
This issue features front and back cover artwork by Miriam Macgregor and Hilary Paynter, respectively.
