This book is published only on the left-hand pages, according to the author’s convictions and those of Marshall McLuhan. Published by Triangulo Books and commissioned by H2O Gallery. The video pieces are recordings of Filipinos from the streets of Manila reading the Spanish poems for the first time, without knowing how to speak the language. The result is a language that is alien but post-colonially familiar, since the cadence of the readers’ native language, Tagalog, is somewhat similar in cadence and vocabulary to Spanish. The installation complements the book by giving it a life outside of the pages, since, according to the McLuhanism, if it works it is obsolete. And if the book is one of the most obsolete inventions that exists, it can only survive by transcending its format. - Hardworking Goodlooking
