Printed on stiff board with gold-foiled text block. On the cover we see a landscape in Southern Arizona, known to be the most active crossing point along the migration route of illegal immigrants through the Sonoran desert. Inside the book are spreads of the desert sky as it progresses from dawn to sunset, taking us through the stages of day as seen by immigrants as they travel across this treacherous desert, coupled with meditative photographs of things left behind by those crossing: shoes, plastic bags, and clothing. Each facing page is printed with a “border beatitude,” half-poem, half-prayer and half political commentary, as the artist attempts to understand America’s conflicted attitude towards the immigrant and his journey.
