The Expert/Afternoon in the Uganda Forest is a single volume containing two parts of a project by Sofie Thorsen. The Danish artist explores developing nations through their relationship with DANIDA, the Danish International Development Assistance. The book uses documentary black and white photographs, silhouette drawings, drawings layered on translucent paper, film stills, and text. Included is a conversation between a Danish development worker and an unidentified interviewer, a glossary with words selected to describe the environment and lifestyles within the communities, and a timeline chronicling the activities of DANIDA and the development status of the developing countries. This project was conceived as part of the themed project series Colonialism without Colonies? Relations between Tourism, Neo-Colonialism and Migration, curated by SĜnke Gau and Katharina Schlieben.
