Slikmiks is a collection of comic strip stories and illustrations. It reveals the absurd, explosive universe of Mikkel Sommer. It’s a graphic and narrative laboratory where the author varies his style according to the story he’s telling, to get as close as possible to his narrative. Underneath an apparent simplicity, he modulates his line and uses color with a rigor all his own, demonstrating without parading his ease in the 9th art.
In the 10 stories that make up this book, ranging from one to eighteen pages, Mikkel opens the doors to his sparkling universe, where anecdote and tale, tenderness and madness, the down-to-earth and the fantastic, all blend together.
Behind the absurd humor and apparent lightness of her stories lies a rich vision of the world that readers will be able to decipher. His characters, all endearing in their marginality, reveal themselves to be human in their approach to the world, in their flaws and inconsistencies. This book is an invitation to take a step aside, to put a little magic in our irises and laugh at ourselves in the reflection that each story offers us.
Slikmiks comes from the Danish word for “assortment of sweets”, so the idea would be to open this book as one opens a packet of sweets to savor the wacky flavors prepared for us by its author. -Publisher
