Since its founding in May of 2008, Silberkuppe has become one of Berlin’s most outstanding independent spaces for contemporary art. Run by Dominic Eichler and Michel Ziegler, the space consists of 82-square feet and is located in a former concierge’s office. Here, Eichler and Zeigler have initiated some twenty projects including exhibitions, lectures, presentations, film screenings, concerts and performances, which together have involved more than fifty cultural producers with diverse interests and backgrounds, including contemporary artists, architects, actors, dancers, designers, musicians and writers.
Under One Umbrella was published to accompany a 2010 exhibition at Bergen Kunsthall, where Silberkuppe extended their practice out from their own micro-space to create a project consisting of a series of institutional group exhibitions. The book takes the form of a “photographic report” documenting all of Silberkuppe’s main exhibitions and events and presenting essays by Alice Creischer and Andreas Siekmann, Kaucyila Brooke, Vivian Rehberg, Jennifer Higgie, MAP magazine, and Martin Ebner, among others.
