“R” is the second issue of Provence, an eight-issue magazine “dedicated to hobbies,“ produced in Nice. In the art world, where the line between work and free time rarely exists at all, the editors of Provence have deemed it necessary to "open up some space to reflect on creation and recreation. Pursuing hobbies is a chance to switch sides, to find another vantage point from which to look back at our assumed positions, at our own operations within the discourse of contemporary art.”
Each issue is named for a different letter of the magazine’s title. The second issue, “R", includes a feature by Ghislain Mollet-Vieville, reflecting on his advertising and publicity strategies as they mirrored the practices of the (mostly) Conceptual artists that he represented through the mid-1980s. Also includes a recipe for German dumplings from Loretta Fahrenholz and Nolan Simon, a conversation between Alexander Ferrando and Clayton Flynn set to a soundtrack of Angelo Badalamenti’s scores for David Lynch films, and many other enjoyable diversions.
