Printed Matter is pleased to host an exhibition surveying the first five years of publications from Hassla Books, a New York-based independent press with a focus on art and photography. The in-store display will run March 14 through March 28th, 2012. Please join us for an opening reception on Friday, March 16 6-8 PM.
Founded by David Schoerner in January 2007 in Amherst, NH, Hassla Books specializes in publishing small, low-run artist books that feature the work of both emerging and established artists. Schoerner works closely with the artists to create a publication with a simple aesthetic, allowing for an interior view into the artist’s work.
Hassla has published artists’ books by Lucas Blalock, Anne Collier, Sam Falls, Bernhard Fuchs, Marcelo Gomes, Takashi Homma, Nicolai Howalt & Trine Søndergaard, Pierre Le Hors, Kathryn Kerr, Dan McCarthy, Ola Rindal, Torbjørn Rødland, Leslie Shows, David Schoerner, Colin Snapp and Kate Steciw.
In addition to a presentation of Hassla books available for reading and purchase, we’ll have a selection of artworks from Hassla book artists on display. These include a drawing from Dan McCarthy, 2 small paintings from Kate Steciw, a screenprint from Pierre Le Hors’ “Firework Studies,” as well as one of Leslie Shows’ “Black Iceberg” works-on-paper.
