Book Launch with Lala Albert

January 24, 2020
6-8PM

Printed Matter / St Marks is pleased to present a launch of Lala Albert’s new book Seasonal Shift: Comics 2013-2019 published by Breakdown Press. The evening will also feature a reading by the artist.

Seasonal Shift collects a selection of comics by Lala Albert, made between 2013 and 2019. Ethereal, unsettling and intimate, these genre-hopping examinations of identity and nature demonstrate that Albert is a master of the formally-inventive contemporary comic.

An important, long-overdue collection of work from one of our generation’s singular cartoonists. Lush, paranoid and visionary comics. - Michael DeForge

Reading Seasonal Shift is like holding a rare insect in your mouth, its dry wings beating against your tongue and the walls of your cheek, and imagining - in the moments before your teeth come together - all the different ways that it could taste - Gretchen Felker-Martin

Lala Albert (1986) is a Brooklyn-based comics artist. Through comics she explores concerns of the environment, the body, sex and speculative futures. Her shorter works have appeared in anthologies such as Trapper Keeper, Mould Map and Weird Magazine. She’s released solo publications with Breakdown Press (UK), Kuš! (Latvia) and Sonatina (USA).
