Canadian artist Greg Curnoe is well-known for his body of painting, his involvement in experimental music, his passion for bicycling, and for producing a large collection of lettered works in the form of rubber stamped books. Art Metropole, as part of their artists’ book publishing program, has published “Blue Book #8,” a very handsome production that was released on the occasion of the artist’s rubber-stamped book exhibition. “Blue Book #8” contains the artist’s writings, an essay by Christopher Dewdney and an inserted checklist of the exhibition that featured 63 rubber stamped books produced from 1961-1989. Comprised of 168 pages of disavowals, Curnoe tells us over and over again what he isn’t. By stating such facts as “I am not a world champion, I am not a watchmaker, I am not a girl guide, I am not a curator,” he ultimately tells us who he is.
