The Sundown Salon Unfolding Archive : A Project by Fritz Haeg documents a series of parties that took place at Fritz Haeg’s home, a geodesic dome perched on Sunset Drive in the hills of Los Angeles.
Between 2001 and 2006, Haeg, an artist trained in architecture, played host to 30 parties. Not parties in any traditional sense, Haeg’s salons were akin to experiments in community building. Creating a context between careful design and casual chaos, these get-togethers happily collapsed ideas of performer and audience. Over those five years, participants included Jim Drain, Eileen Myles, Terence Koh, the Wattis Institute, and many, many others.
The book is a work of art itself. Collecting rich photo documentation of every salon, it is presented in a large, accordian-style format, and includes essays by Haeg, publisher Stacey Wakefield, Matias Viegener, Lisa Anne Auerbach, Trinie Dalton, Kimberli Meyer, Robby Herbst in addition to numerous conversations with artists involved.
